History

Southside Medical Center was founded in 1967 as the Atlanta Southside Comprehensive Health Center. At the time, local community leaders, health officials from the federal government, and Atlanta’s private sector harnessed their collective resources to create a health facility to meet the medical needs of the impoverished communities in southeast Atlanta.
Except for the municipal hospital located in the downtown business district, medical facilities were practically unheard of in this community.
As a result of the long term dedication and commitment of its well trained medical staff, the health center quickly established itself as one of the premier providers of comprehensive primary care in the state of Georgia.
Southside Medical Center has been nationally recognized by the National Association of Community Health Centers for having one of the best primary health care delivery systems for the medically underserved in the country.
Despite the center’s modest beginnings, it has grown to become the largest community health center in the state of Georgia and one of the ten largest in the United States. Southside Medical Center’s comprehensive care system ensures that each of its patients has access to all areas of health care services as well as certain specialties.
